One of the most direct ways to empower homeless men, women and children is to give money to the non-profit organizations that provide homeless shelter and services. Dollars donated to the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust are distributed to emergency shelter providers to assist with a range services, including meals, job training and placement, health and psychiatric care, rental assistance, housing and more.

Feed the Meters, Change a Life
100 Meters Ready for Adoption
Panhandling hurts! It creates dependence, enables continued drug and alcohol abuse and keeps people stuck on the streets.
If you want to give spare change AND feel good about it, Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust provides this community with nearly 100 ways to do that through our meter program. Britto-inspired meters are located around our community and provide a depository for loose change. Every nickel, dime and quarter goes directly to provide support for the homeless.
Find a meter and practice mindful giving.
You can also join a growing list of companies and organizations that have placed meters in their business location or nearby sidewalk:
- Joe’s Stone Crab
- Bayside Park
- Jimmy’s Dinner
- City of North Miami
- Ben and Jerry’s Coral Gables
- Melo Group
We take care of the entire process for you – from installation to collection. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why Feed the Meters?
Miami-Dade County residents give tens of millions of dollars to panhandlers each year. The majority of people surveyed by the Trust said they did so because they thought it was the right thing to do.
STOP. Think again.
The fact is that not everyone who panhandles is homeless. Even if they are, giving them money is not an effective means to help lift them out of their current situation. By re-purposing old meters, we create new hope for individuals and families that find themselves homeless.
